How is the poem Death Of A Hired Man by Robert Frost a Modern poem?
Here is the poem

Mary sat musing on the lamp-flame at the table
Waiting for Warren. When she heard his step,
She ran on tip-toe down the darkened passage
To meet him in the doorway with the news
And put him on his guard. "Silas is back."
She pushed him outward with her through the door
And shut it after her. "Be kind," she said.
She took the market things from Warren’s arms
And set them on the porch, then drew him down
To sit beside her on the wooden steps.

"When was I ever anything but kind to him?
But I’ll not have the fellow back," he said.
"I told him so last haying, didn’t I?
‘If he left then,’ I said, ‘that ended it.’
What good is he? Who else will harbour him
At his age for the little he can do?
What help he is there’s no depending on.
Off he goes always when I need him most.
‘He thinks he ought to earn a little pay,
Enough at least to buy tobacco with,
So he won’t have to beg and be beholden.’
‘All right,’ I say, ‘I can’t afford to pay
Any fixed wages, though I wish I could.’
‘Someone else can.’ ‘Then someone else will have to.’
I shouldn’t mind his bettering himself
If that was what it was. You can be certain,
When he begins like that, there’s someone at him
Trying to coax him off with pocket-money,–
In haying time, when any help is scarce.
In winter he comes back to us. I’m done."

"Sh! not so loud: he’ll hear you," Mary said.

"I want him to: he’ll have to soon or late."

"He’s worn out. He’s asleep beside the stove.
When I came up from Rowe’s I found him here,
Huddled against the barn-door fast asleep,
A miserable sight, and frightening, too–
You needn’t smile–I didn’t recognise him–
I wasn’t looking for him–and he’s changed.
Wait till you see."

"Where did you say he’d been?"

"He didn’t say. I dragged him to the house,
And gave him tea and tried to make him smoke.
I tried to make him talk about his travels.
Nothing would do: he just kept nodding off."

"What did he say? Did he say anything?"

"But little."

"Anything? Mary, confess
He said he’d come to ditch the meadow for me."

"Warren!"

"But did he? I just want to know."

"Of course he did. What would you have him say?
Surely you wouldn’t grudge the poor old man
Some humble way to save his self-respect.
He added, if you really care to know,
He meant to clear the upper pasture, too.
That sounds like something you have heard before?
Warren, I wish you could have heard the way
He jumbled everything. I stopped to look
Two or three times–he made me feel so queer–
To see if he was talking in his sleep.
He ran on Harold Wilson–you remember–
The boy you had in haying four years since.
He’s finished school, and teaching in his college.
Silas declares you’ll have to get him back.
He says they two will make a team for work:
Between them they will lay this farm as smooth!
The way he mixed that in with other things.
He thinks young Wilson a likely lad, though daft
On education–you know how they fought
All through July under the blazing sun,
Silas up on the cart to build the load,
Harold along beside to pitch it on."

"Yes, I took care to keep well out of earshot."

"Well, those days trouble Silas like a dream.
You wouldn’t think they would. How some things linger!
Harold’s young college boy’s assurance piqued him.
After so many years he still keeps finding
Good arguments he sees he might have used.
I sympathise. I know just how it feels
To think of the right thing to say too late.
Harold’s associated in his mind with Latin.
He asked me what I thought of Harold’s saying
He studied Latin like the violin
Because he liked it–that an argument!
He said he couldn’t make the boy believe
He could find water with a hazel prong–
Which showed how much good school had ever done him.
He wanted to go over that. But most of all
He thinks if he could have another chance
To teach him how to build a load of hay—-"

"I know, that’s Silas’ one accomplishment.
He bundles every forkful in its place,
And tags and numbers it for future reference,
So he can find and easily dislodge it
In the unloading. Silas does that well.
He takes it out in bunches like big birds’ nests.
You never see him standing on the hay
He’s trying to lift, straining to lift himself."

"He thinks if he could teach him that, he’d be
Some good perhaps to someone in the world.
He hates to see a boy the fool of books.
Poor Silas, so concerned for other folk,
And nothing to look backward to with pride,
And nothing to look forward to with hope,
So now and never any different."

Part of a moon was falling down the west,
Dragging the whole sky with it to the hills.
Its light poured softly in her lap. She saw
And spread her apron to it. She put out her hand
Among the harp-like morning-glory strings,
Taut with the dew from garden bed to eaves,
As if she played unheard the tenderness
That wrought on him beside her in the night.
"Warren," she said, "he has come home to di

What Should I Tell Hair Stylist?
I am going to get my hair cut and colored. I want to go from a medium brown to a blonde. This isn’t a very common movie, but I want my hair the same cut and color as Kate Hudson’s in "Le Divorce," but I don’t know how to explain the cut and color to the stylist. Does anyone know how to explain such a cut? What color would that blonde be?

She has a couple of different looks in the film…
I would suggest trying to print a picture from the Internet of the look you want…bring that to the hair dresser.
Try looking at some images of her at this site…
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306734/
Basically to achieve it you have to be prepared with a visual for the stylist. (Do you have a laptop?)

Good luck! Hope it works out for you!

You may also try a google image search of Kate Hudson for a more images.

This shows the length and the waves. I know she has a hat on in the picture, but I doubt your stylist will demand to see where her part is haha.

Good luck, my friend went blond too by the way, she looked amazing!

It was a dark, stormy night and the rat was freezing cold.?
He approached the farmhouse and crept in thru a crack in the door. Once inside he heard drunken singing and went to investigate. He spotted a large chamber pot on the floor, and inside was a mouse rowing a small boat round and round singing ’sea shanties’ You look like a drowned rat, said mouse, go and sit by the fire & get warm. " Is there a cat? asked rat. Dont worry about him he’s a wuss. Once dry the rat said he was hungry. Just help yourself from the larder said mouse. "The cat?" said rat. ‘No problem he’s a wuss!’ said mouse. So rat went and helped himself to some food, where he was savaged by the cat, and was left for dead. Rat managed to drag himself back to where the mouse was still rowing round the chamber pot, still singing, and said ," I thought you said that cat was a wuss, he nearly killed me!!" ‘Didnt you know not to take any notice of someone on the pish!’ said mouse
for those with long memories, I first posted this 1 2 years ago - stood the test of time!

HAHAHHAHAH!!! That was a good one! The funniest part of your fable was the one where the Rat took the mouse literally by thinking "Don’t worry about the cat, he’s a wuss!" meaning "He won’t hurt you!" (not knowing Wusses are mean and hurt people). You should become a author and write some interesting fables! I congratulate you! Keep it up! Thank you!

Ravenous (1999)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: Captain John Boyd receives a promotion after defeating the enemy command in a battle of the Mexican-American War, but because the general realizes it was an act of cowardice that got him there, he is given a backhanded promotion to Fort Spencer, where he is third in command. The others at the fort are two Indians, George and his sister, Martha, who came with the place, Chaplain Toffler, Reich, the soldier; Cleaves, a drugged-up cook; and Knox, who is frequently drunk. When a Scottish stranger named Colquhoun appears and recovers from frostbite almost instantly after being bathed, he tells a story about his party leader, Ives, eating members of the party to survive. As part of their duty, they must go up to the cave where this occurred to see if any have survived. Only Martha, Knox, and Cleaves stay behind. George warns that since Colquhoun admits to eating human flesh, he must be a Windigo, a ravenous cannibalistic creature.

Help me write a sentence w each of these words!?
Augment, interpose, ravenous, timid, impregable, disconsolate, rimy, bobbish, exonerated, appletic, sagacious, contemptible, capricious

I was not timid, but sagacious, when I augmented the situation to interpose in an argument to suggest that the contemptible words "bobbish" and "appletic" are capricious misspellings of "snobbish" and "apoplectic".

Ta da!
sqlguy | Feb 02, 2010

Writing these sentences will help augment my vocabulary. Between ourselves and our real natures we interpose that wax figure of idealizations and selections which we call our character. I have a ravenous hunger for knowledge. I am too timid to ask for help. Sadly, his mind was dense and impregnable, therefore, he was incapable of learning. The teacher was disconsolate when she discovered her student cheated. My acne has developed a rimy appearance. I was bobbish when I discovered my first pubic hair. i was exonerated because I had a good alibi. It was sagacious of me to figure out how to get others to do my work. I do not feel it is contemptible to cheat. These capricious homework assignments are getting the better of me. I was appletic to discover the extent of the fraud.

Lives of the Saints, The (2006)

IMDB rating: 5.60

Plot: Mr Karva runs a shady little empire in North London. We don’t know exactly how he makes his money but we know it’s probably not very nice. Mr Karva’s stepson, Othello, has ambitions to take the old man’s place; and Othello’s fainthearted friend, Emilio, has ambitions of his own. This delicate balance of power is upset when Roadrunner finds a strange, sickly-looking 10 year old boy in the park. All his life, Roadrunner has been on the move - but when he looks into the child’s eyes, he finds he can finally stop running. It becomes clear that the child can grant each character their own taste of heaven - the ‘perfect, rosy future of your dreams’. The child never talks but transforms the world around him, working on the desire in each character’s heart, whatever it may be. Othello wins every bet he makes; Christella finds a new son to replace the baby she lost; Mr. Karva achieves his elusive orgasm and Father Daniel is finally able to express his own secret passions. But nothing ever comes for free…

Does anyone know this song?
I know it, but I want to see if YOU know it! Who ever names it first gets the best answer!

Wrap me in a bolt of lightning
Send me on my way still smiling
Maybe that’s the way I should go,
Straight into the mouth of the unknown
I left the spare key on the table
Never really thought I’d be able to say
I merely visit on the weekends
I lost my whole life and a dear friend

I’ve said it so many times
I would change my ways
No, nevermind
God knows I’ve tried

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it’s over I’ll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it’s over I don’t wan’t you to hurt
It’s all that I can say. So, I’ll be on my way

I finally put it all together,
But nothing really lasts forever
I had to make a choice that was not mine,
I had to say goodbye for the last time
I kept my whole life in suitcase,
Never really stayed in one place
Maybe that’s the way it should be,
You know I’ve led my life like a gypsy

I’ve said it so many times
I would change my ways
No, nevermind
God knows I’ve tried

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it’s over I’ll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it’s over I don’t wan’t you to hurt
It’s all that I can say. So, I’ll be on my way

I’ll always keep you inside, you healed my
Heart and my life… And you know I try.

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it’s over I’ll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it’s over I don’t wan’t you to hurt
It’s all that I can say. So, I’ll be on my way
So, I’ll be on my way
So, I’ll be on my way

Good luck! =)

Pain in pelvis/hip bone area? Bleeding now?
Hey. I just want some insight of whats going on in my body. I have been feeling really weird lately. Always sleepy, dizzy, fatigue, blah. And for the past week or maybe ten days, I have been getting this weird pain in my hip bone/pelvis area. And also back pain. I have had kidney infections before and the back pain was about in the same place but no urinary tract infection issues. So now my pelvis/hip bone aches sometimes. It also hurts when I walk for a long period of time at a mall or what not - the hip bones and in the middle area aronud there (right above your private area and lower stomach) cramp up. Almost feels like menstrual cramps but I am not anywhere near it because it just ended a week ago.

Also, when I just went to the bathroom (number 2) I got fresh blood as I was cleaning up. Not dark brown but fresh red.

Any insights of what it could be? Also, when I have sex with my boyfriend (protected), in some positions my right hip bone starts to hurt.

Could you disown your child like Jerry Lewis did?
Wow I just saw the story about this on ‘Inside Edition’. I wasn’t even aware of this and his son died last year. He was living at one point in a shelter. Jerry disowned him first at birth because he wasn’t born a girl! Dam! His story was sad. He said that his father never loved him. Jerry Lewis, the funny guy who everyone thought was this nice lover of kids kinda guy. The man with the ‘Jerry’s Kid’ telethon. Wow!

Lip piercing question?
I have been thinking of getting a upper lip piercing for awhile now. My only concern is that I have heard from some people that sometimes the piercing rubs against your gum’s and wears your gum’s away. Is this true? I have other piercings so I’m not worried about the pain or anything. Also PLEASE save your negative remarks, I don’t give a hoot about what you think about piercings. I already have a wonderful job that accepts them and the field i’m going into for a career, piercings don’t matter. Ok, I think I’m done. Please help!!!! Thanks! 10 pts to the best answer! :)

It is possible, but an experienced piercer can place it so it touches you gums minimally. Also, you can use an acrylic or bioplast stud.
Amethyst | Feb 09, 2010

Yes it can happen . But if you go to a good professional piercer the chance of that happening is really low. They would give you a good sized bar and that wouldn’t harm you or your gum . Good luck . x
Ruby | Feb 09, 2010

It can rub against the gum and wear away the teeth a little bit, but it’s so miniscule that it’s not a big deal. It’s not like it will rub a hole in your mouth… Just get it, your young. The things about piercings is that you can always take them out!
golbio33 | Feb 09, 2010

I have had my Monroe pierced for 4 years now and I cannot tell that it has done anything to my mouth. It sits right at where my teeth and gums meet and it has not hurt my teeth or my gums! I would totally go for it! I love mine. AND I didnt go to a classy, upper-end tattoo shop to get mine done either. I did go to a shop but it was one of those places that do a piercing like every 30 seconds and they are just pushing the people through to get to the next one. Super clean place but not much dedication. No problems with mine!
And I know you have other piercings so you might want to know this: this was the fastest healing piercing that I have ever recieved. It was healed in like 1 week max and I was able to change the jewelry out! All my other ones have taken like 3-4 weeks before i could change them!
